Escola da APEL is very pleased to welcome its young students and their parents.
We dream of reducing the massification of learning and making it a more personalised process which goes beyond the curriculum. It was the challenge to go further ahead of the traditional model of teaching and learning that led Escola da APEL to apply to become an IB World School.
Escola da APEL is that its school project offers international opportunities to the students, by means of the IB DP - Diploma Programme of the International Baccalauretae . Creativity, interculturality, imagination, intelligence, respect and consideration are some of the main values promoted by this programme of education in which the development of the student's personal competences is a priority.
The development of linguistic competences is another step towards the understanding of the modern world, access a curriculum of excellence, obtain success in higher education and compete in the global job market. The programme also entails a strong motivation for research and experimentation activities, as well as the diversification of extracurricular projects and initiatives.
As an IB World School, Escola da APEL has been certified by the International Baccalaureate and has been acknowledged as a high standard school which prepares its students to be responsible, inquiring, attentive and concerned with global, relevant, modern issues.

É com grande satisfação que a Escola da APEL abre suas portas para receber os seus jovens alunos e os seus pais.
Para alguém que está ligado ao ensino, há sempre o sonho de fazer algo pela educação, uma educação menos massificada, mais personalizadora e com preocupações que ultrapassam o currículo. Foi assim, com a missão de fugir ao chamado modelo tradicional do ensino que nasceu o desejo, na Escola da APEL, de assumir o desafio de ser uma escola IB.
Ter um projeto educativo que abre oportunidades internacionais para os alunos é um dos principais objetivos da Escola da APEL, concretizado no IB - Diploma Programme. Criatividade, interculturalidade, imaginação, inteligência, respeito, cortesia são alguns dos principais valores promovidos por este Programa de ensino no qual o desenvolvimento das competências pessoais dos alunos é uma prioridade.
O desenvolvimento das competências linguísticas é igualmente um passo em frente para compreender o mundo atual, aceder a um currículo de excelência, obter sucesso no ensino superior e competir no mercado de trabalho global. Mission: Our purpose is to foster teaching and learning in a community which aims at the integral and lifelong development of its members by the promotion of global citizenship and solidarity, the encouragement of active learning and the valuing of competent and professional engagement.
Escola da APEL has been an International Baccalaureate World School since 2015. Students are able to take the IB Diploma Programme at the school- The first cohort commenced their studies in the school year 2015/2016. This two year Programme gives equivalence to the 11th and 12th year of the Portuguese education system.
Escola da APEL is proud to be a member of an ever growing global community of schools offering the International Baccalaureate in 147 different countries.
A Escola da APEL ganhou o estatuto de IB World School em 2015. Lecionou no ano letivo 2015/2016, o 1º ano do Diploma Programme da International Baccalaureate (IB). O Diploma Programme é um programa Internacional de dois anos que dá equivalência ao 11º e 12º anos.
Em 2015 a Escola da APEL tornou-se membro recente desta crescente comunidade global de escolas (presente em cerca de 147 diferentes países) que oferecem os programas da International Baccalaureate (IB).
The IB Diploma / O IB Diploma
The IB Diploma Programme (DP) is an academically challenging and balanced programme of education with final examinations that prepares students, aged 16 to 19, for success at university and life beyond. It is respected by leading universities across the globe.
O Diploma Programme (DP) do IB é um programa educacional equilibrado, academicamente desafiante (com exames finais), que prepara alunos, com idades compreendidas entre os 16 e 19 anos (que possuem o 10º ano do currículo português ou equivalente), para o sucesso universitário e para a vida. É um programa respeitado pelas principais universidades mundiais.
Entry Requirements / Requisitos de admissão
Students wishing to take the IB Diploma Programme at Escola da APEL must meet the entry requirements: conclusion of year 10 of education in the Portuguese National Curriculum or an equivalent qualification.
Os alunos que desejam candidatar-se ao ensino IB Diploma Programme devem ser portadores do 10º ano de escolaridade do ensino português ou de habilitação equivalente.

The Core / Disciplinas obrigatórias
The students’ are introduced to ToK (Theory of Knowledge) by analysing and reflecting on the IB learner profile.
The school’s CAS programe offers the students the opportunity to participate in a wide range of activities. These activities and projects include local and global environmental projects sponsored both by local entities and international organisations.
Students are introduced to the Extended Essay (EE) in the firts term of Year 11. The EE Co-ordinator guided them through the whole process An essay supervisor, a subject specialist, who monitors and advises the student on a regular basis is assigned to each student.
Extra-curricular Activities / Atividades extracurriculares
Students are given the opportunity to take part in a range of projects and educational visits. These include, Theatre trips, visits to local art galleries and museums, Eco schools projects.
